Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has been appointed as the mentor for Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2025 IPL season. This marks a significant change for the franchise, and the announcement was made through Delhi Capitals' official app. However, the franchise has yet to announce the new captain for the team.
This will be Pietersen’s first coaching role in the IPL, having last played in the league in 2016. Upon his appointment, Pietersen expressed his excitement, saying, "This is a fantastic opportunity for me. I am eager to work with the squad and do my utmost to help the team win the title."
Pietersen was previously part of the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) team and captained the squad in 2014. However, the team finished at the bottom of the points table that year, winning only two out of fourteen matches.
Ahead of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals has made significant changes to their squad. They have retained only Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abhishek Porel. Later, in the auction, they made headlines by acquiring big names like KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc.
The IPL 2025 season will kick off on March 22 and run until May 25, with 10 teams competing across 13 venues. Delhi Capitals will be aiming to clinch their first-ever IPL title in this upcoming season.
