Keshav Maharaj Credits Tamim Iqbal for Success in Mirpur Test
South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has claimed six wickets across both innings in the ongoing Test against Bangladesh, and he attributes part of his success to Tamim Iqbal. Last year, during the BPL, Maharaj played three matches for Fortune Barishal, a team captained by Tamim. Their relationship allowed Maharaj to gather valuable insights about the pitch conditions in Mirpur.
Speaking at a press conference after the third day, Maharaj said, "I messaged Tamim Bhai. We have a good relationship, mainly because of playing in the BPL together. I sought his advice on the conditions, and he provided insights on how the pitch might behave. What he said has proven to be accurate."
Despite Bangladesh's strong batting performance, Maharaj believes South Africa is still in a favorable position. "Bangladesh has definitely batted well today. The conditions seem to have improved a bit as the ball is getting older. However, I still think we are ahead. Bangladesh is in the lead, but they have three wickets remaining. If we can restrict them to a low score, I believe we are in a good position, especially considering our batting performance in the first innings."
Maharaj also praised the batting of Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Zakir Ali, stating, "Mehedi and Zakir played well today. We tried our best against them, and I don’t think we took them lightly—they performed exceptionally well. They deserve credit for their batting in such circumstances."
