Bangladesh's batting performance has been underwhelming for an extended period. In the recent Test, eight batters were dismissed in single digits in the first innings, and seven in the second. Other than Mominul Haque's 82 runs, there has been little to commend in this Test. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto pointed out that players are lacking in both skill and mindset, emphasizing the need for change to avoid continued poor results.

While South African batters batted for 144.2 overs in one innings, Bangladesh managed to play only 89 overs across both innings, losing 20 wickets and scoring 302 runs. Such a helpless surrender in familiar home conditions has led to criticism of the batters, particularly the top order, who have been capitulating without a fight for several years. Concerns have now arisen regarding their commitment to the national team.

Reflecting on their disappointing batting, Shanto stated in a press conference, "I won't just refer to these two innings. This has been happening for a long time. If there are no partnerships from the top order in Test cricket, it becomes very difficult for the following batters. I don't know what the top-order batters are thinking or how they are preparing. If this continues, such results will follow."

Shanto stressed the importance of changing players' mindsets along with improving their skills. When asked whether the issues stem from skill or mindset, he replied, "Both skill and mindset. There are many areas of our skills that need improvement, and we also need to change our thought processes. I've been saying for a long time that we need to improve. We need to identify the areas that require enhancement."
