Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been signed by Gujarat Titans as a replacement for injured New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Shanaka, who previously played for Gujarat in the 2023 edition, was brought in for INR 75 lakh.
Glenn Phillips suffered an injury while fielding during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week. Following medical tests, it was confirmed that he would miss the remainder of the tournament, prompting his return to New Zealand.
Shanaka’s IPL career has been limited so far. He featured in three matches for Gujarat in 2023, scoring just 26 runs and not getting an opportunity to bowl.
Adding to Gujarat’s injury concerns, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada also left the squad on April 3 due to personal reasons. It remains unclear whether he will return this season. The franchise has not yet named a replacement for him.
Despite the setbacks, Gujarat Titans have been performing strongly this season, winning four of their six matches and currently sitting in second place on the points table. Their next fixture is a high-stakes home game against table-toppers Delhi Capitals, scheduled for this Saturday.
