The Indian cricket team will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The first Test will be held at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. India has won 11 out of the 13 Tests played against Bangladesh so far. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India will aim to continue this winning streak in the upcoming series.
Before the series starts, let’s take a look at how the Indian players selected for the first Test have performed against Bangladesh so far:
Rohit Sharma: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has played three Tests against Bangladesh and has scored only 33 runs in those matches.
Shubman Gill: The 25-year-old Shubman Gill has scored 157 runs in two Tests against Bangladesh. He made his first Test century in Chattogram in 2022.
Virat Kohli: In the six Tests he has played against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli has amassed 437 runs. He is one of the three batters to have scored a double century in red-ball matches between the two teams.
KL Rahul: The 32-year-old KL Rahul led India in the last Test series against Bangladesh. In three Tests against Bangladesh, he has managed only 69 runs in six innings.
Rishabh Pant: Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has scored 148 runs at a strike rate of 91.35 in two Tests against Bangladesh.
Ravindra Jadeja: The world's number one Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has scored 148 runs and taken six wickets in three Tests against Bangladesh.
Ravichandran Ashwin: The world’s number one Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has played six Tests against Bangladesh, scoring 157 runs and taking 23 wickets.
Axar Patel: In two Tests against Bangladesh, Axar Patel has scored 52 runs and claimed eight wickets.
Mohammed Siraj: Mohammed Siraj has played two Tests against Bangladesh and has dismissed six Bangladeshi batters.
Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep Yadav has played just one Test against Bangladesh for India. In that Test in Chattogram, he scored 40 runs in the first innings and took five wickets for just 40 runs in 16 overs. He did not bat in the second innings but took one more wicket.
Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, and Yash Dayal are the six Indian players who have not played any red-ball matches against Bangladesh.
