Faruk Ahmed’s Chapter Ends at BCB, Aminul Islam Bulbul Set to Become New President
The chapter of Faruk Ahmed at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has come to an end. Following his dismissal by the National Sports Council (NSC), former national team captain and Bangladesh’s first Test centurion, Aminul Islam Bulbul, is poised to take over as the new BCB President. If all goes according to plan, Bulbul is expected to officially assume responsibility later today.
The NSC is set to issue a gazette notification by this afternoon nominating Aminul Islam Bulbul as a BCB director. An emergency board meeting will then be convened at the BCB, where he will be elected as the new President.
The development follows a formal letter sent by eight BCB directors to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, expressing a vote of no confidence against Faruk Ahmed. Responding to that request, the NSC cancelled Faruk's directorial nomination, leaving the BCB presidency vacant.
Aminul Islam Bulbul, who currently works as a Development Manager with the International Cricket Council (ICC), has agreed to take on the leadership role. He will become only the second cricketer with international playing experience for Bangladesh to assume the presidency after Faruk Ahmed.
Bulbul is being appointed as a director by the NSC to fill the vacancy left by Faruk. The NSC has already approved Bulbul as a BCB councillor in place of Faruk Ahmed. Following this, he will be formally elected as President in a board vote.
This transition marks a significant leadership change at the helm of Bangladesh cricket, with expectations high as a former national icon steps in during a time of administrative flux.
