Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched a comfortable victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), thanks to the effortless innings by Phil Salt. Today at Eden Gardens, despite the challenging target set by Super Giants of 162 runs, Kolkata didn't have to struggle much. Instead, they managed to secure the match by winning with an unbeaten 89 runs in 15.4 overs in Salt's innings.
Choosing to bat after losing the toss, Lucknow aimed for a strong start. Although opener Quinton de Kock returned quickly, captain Lokesh Rahul made some effort to stabilize the innings. He scored 39 runs off 27 balls.
Marcus Stoinis and Deepak Hooda seemed disappointed from LSG's perspective. However, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran added some respectable runs to the scoreboard for the team. Although Badoni's innings didn't exhibit much caution regarding strike rate, he managed to score 29 runs off 27 balls.
Pooran, on the other hand, contributed with 45 runs (32), including 4 sixes and 2 fours. Despite losing 7 wickets, LSG halted at 161 runs. Mitchell Starc was the top wicket-taker for Kolkata with 3 wickets.
Kolkata didn't take much time to reach the target of 162 runs on their home ground. Their batting lineup, already in a formidable position, reiterated their strength. English batter Phil Salt confidently anchored the innings.
Sunil Narine returned with just 6 runs off 6 balls. Kolkata's batting continued like a whip. Angkrish, who came next, couldn't score, returning with just 7 runs. Next up, captain Shreyas Iyer joined Salt to conclude Kolkata's innings.
Iyer only provided support while Salt showcased all the shots. Consequently, with 26 balls remaining, Kolkata secured an easy victory. Salt remained unbeaten with 89 runs off 47 balls, including 14 fours and 3 sixes. Iyer remained unbeaten with 38 runs off 38 balls.
