BPL 2025: Dhaka Capitals
The Dhaka Capitals, led by Shakib Khan, have successfully completed the player draft for the upcoming BPL (Bangladesh Premier League). Shakib has taken the lead in showcasing the team's strategy, and combined with direct signings, the franchise has built an 18-member squad. This season, Shakib will be joined by prominent players like Liton Das, Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tamim Iqbal, along with overseas stars such as Thisara Perera, Johnson Charles, and Saim Ayub.
Overall, the newly formed Dhaka Capitals have solidified a strong lineup for the tournament, featuring two of the best batters in BPL history, Liton Das and Sabbir Rahman. The pace attack will be spearheaded by the renowned cutter, Mustafizur Rahman. Liton will be opening alongside the aggressive young batter, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, while Sabbir makes a comeback to the league.
Other local talents like Munim Shahriar, Habibur Rahman Sohan, and Shahadat Hossain Dipu will also don the Dhaka jersey this season. In addition to Mustafizur, the pace department will include Mushfik Hasan, Mukidul Islam Mugdho, and Abu Zayed Chowdhury Rahi.
On the international front, the team has signed Pakistani Saeem Ayub, and Afghan spinners Amir Hamza Hotak and Mir Hamza. In direct contracts, Dhaka has acquired Johnson Charles (West Indies), Stephen Eskinazi (England), Shah Nawaz Dahani (Pakistan), and Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka).
Shakib Khan expressed his excitement about the upcoming season, stating, "It will be a joyful competition. A sweet and mischievous battle." He added, "A new chapter of my life is beginning. I have always wanted to see how film and cricket can work together. The thrill of movies, romance, and the excitement of cricket—when these two great forces come together, it can create a magnificent explosion and a grand epic. We love cricket, and we always want to see Bangladesh cricket rise. Just as Bangladeshi cinema is ours, so is Bangladeshi cricket."
