BCB Power Struggle Intensifies: Faruk Ahmed Dismisses No-Confidence Move, Considers Legal Action
Eight out of ten directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have submitted a letter of no confidence against current BCB President Faruk Ahmed. Except for Akram Khan, all current board directors have signed the letter addressed to Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the interim government.
The directors behind the no-confidence motion include Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Saiful Alam Swapon, Mahbubul Alam, Monjur Alam, Fahim Sinha, Iftikhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam Ahmed, and Salauddin Chowdhury.
In response to the letter, Faruk Ahmed told national daily Kaler Kantho:
“I’ve received the letter too. The wrongdoings they themselves were involved in—they’re now putting those allegations on me. I couldn’t help but laugh after reading it.”
Faruk further stated:
“Let’s see what can be done. I’ll definitely take some action. I’ve already spoken to my lawyer. If necessary, I will take legal steps. There is no provision for a no-confidence motion in the BCB constitution. So this motion holds no legal value. Either this board will continue, or it will be dissolved.”
The situation marks a significant escalation in internal conflict within the BCB, and Faruk Ahmed’s strong reaction signals that the power struggle is far from over.
