BCB Clarifies: Sacking Shakib is “Definitely Not” an Option
As the Bangladesh national cricket team finds itself in the midst of a disappointing run of performances, questions are also emerging about the future of star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. With concerns over his recent form following a return to competitive cricket, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Iftekhar Ahmed has clarified the board’s stance on Shakib’s future.
Speaking to reporters at the closing ceremony of a cricket tournament in Gulshan, Iftekhar stated that it is too early to make any final judgments regarding Shakib, and more matches are needed to assess his form.
“Definitely not (the end of the road). Our team management, our selectors… Shakib just played his first tournament after returning. It’s something to observe going forward. He is a world-class cricketer and an asset to any team. He is always in consideration by the selectors and the team management,” said Iftekhar.
Shakib recently returned to action in a domestic tournament after a long absence from the national team. While he is yet to fully regain his rhythm, the BCB director emphasized patience.
“He’s only played two or three matches since returning. Let him play a few more games, then we can address this question better,” he added.
