Bangladesh to Announce Squad and New T20I Captain Today Ahead of UAE and Pakistan Series
Bangladesh are set to announce their squad for the upcoming T20I series against the UAE and Pakistan today at 4 PM (BST). The squad will cover both tours, consisting of seven T20Is in total — two against the United Arab Emirates later this month, followed by five T20Is in Pakistan.
A key point of interest in the press conference by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is the announcement of a new T20I captain, as Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped down from the role. Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, currently recovering from a finger injury, is expected to return to international cricket during the UAE series and is the frontrunner to take over the captaincy, subject to fitness clearance.
The UAE leg of the tour will serve as part of Bangladesh’s preparations, with matches scheduled to be played in Sharjah. The team is expected to travel to Pakistan on May 21 immediately after the UAE fixtures.
If Litton passes his final fitness test — expected to be conducted between May 10–12 — he is likely to lead the side during this crucial stretch ahead of the T20 World Cup preparations.
