Bangladesh-South Africa test series in two venues in Bangladesh
In October, Bangladesh is set to host South Africa for a two-Test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship. The series, scheduled according to the Future Tours Programme (FTP), will commence on October 21, with matches likely to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The South African team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh around October 16. This timeline is feasible since there are no current travel advisories against visiting Bangladesh from the South African government. However, the situation remains fluid and is subject to change based on ongoing security assessments.
Since the government change in Bangladesh on August 5, there has been political instability, leading to travel warnings from countries such as England, Australia, and New Zealand. Despite a transitional government being formed on August 8 and subsequent improvements in law and order, the country had already lost the hosting rights for the Women's T20 World Cup mega event.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) is closely monitoring the situation and will make a decision based on security reports. The CSA, along with the South African Cricketers' Association (SACA), is expected to finalize its stance on the tour within the week. Before heading to Bangladesh, the South African team will travel to the UAE for series against Afghanistan and Ireland.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains optimistic about hosting the series, confident that the current political situation will not hinder the planned matches.
