Bangladesh Dominates Second Session in Chennai Test

The second session of the first day in Chennai saw Bangladesh maintain their dominance, taking another three wickets and leaving India struggling at 6 wickets for 176 runs before the tea break. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin remained unbeaten at the crease.

In this session, India scored 88 runs while losing 3 wickets, mirroring their performance from the first session where they also managed 88 runs but lost 3 wickets. Ashwin played a gritty innings with a strike rate resembling that of a one-day match, scoring 21 runs, while Jadeja remained at 7 runs.

After lunch, India lost Rishabh Pant, who returned to Test cricket after 629 days and contributed 39 runs before getting out. Hasan Mahmud claimed his fourth wicket with Pant’s dismissal, having already taken the first three wickets earlier in the innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal reached his fifth Test fifty amid the chaos, providing some stability for India on a day when other key players like Rohit and Kohli failed. However, Jaiswal couldn’t capitalize on his fifty, falling to Nahid Rana for 56 runs, caught by Sadman Islam at first slip.

In the subsequent over, Mehedi Hasan Miraz marked his presence by taking his first wicket, dismissing KL Rahul for 16 runs. India lost their sixth wicket at a team total of 144. Following this, Ashwin and Jadeja batted through the remaining time of the session.

At the end of 48 overs, India managed to score 176 runs with 6 wickets down. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto's decision to bowl first after winning the toss proved beneficial, as Hasan Mahmud's fiery spell put the Indian batting line-up under immense pressure early on.
