Australia started their T20I series against England with a 28-run win, thanks to a brilliant innings by Travis Head. With this victory, Australia takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
In Wednesday's match at Southampton, Australia batted first after losing the toss and posted a total of 179 runs, losing all their wickets in 19.3 overs. In response, England’s innings was dismantled for 151 runs, primarily due to Shane Abbott's exceptional bowling performance.
Travis Head and Matthew Short, Australia's opening batsmen, dominated the powerplay, scoring 86 runs in the initial overs. Head was eventually dismissed on the last ball of the sixth over by Shakib Mahmud, having scored 59 runs off 23 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes.
Captain Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for just 2 runs in the following over, and Matthew Short contributed 41 runs from 26 balls. Josh Inglis added 37 runs off 27 balls to boost Australia's score. Despite a strong start, Australia was bowled out before the completion of their 20-over quota.
