After a series of dramatic developments, former Bangladesh national team captain and the country's first Test centurion Aminul Islam Bulbul has been officially elected as the new President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The announcement came on Friday afternoon, following his approval as a councillor by the National Sports Council (NSC) and a board meeting held at the BCB headquarters.
Aminul becomes the 16th president in the history of the BCB. He secured the position with a majority vote during the board meeting. In addition to Bulbul's appointment, Nazmul Abedeen Fahim was elected as Senior Vice-President, while Fahim Sinha was named Vice-President.
The leadership change follows a vote of no confidence by eight BCB directors against the former president Faruque Ahmed. Responding to the motion, the NSC revoked Faruque's nomination as a board director late Thursday night, leaving the presidency vacant.
On Friday, the NSC issued a formal notification appointing Bulbul as a BCB director. Shortly after, he was elected as the new president in an official board meeting.
Bulbul, widely respected for his cricketing credentials and leadership, takes on the role at a critical time for Bangladesh cricket, which is facing challenges on and off the field.
