Bangladesh Suffer Heavy Defeat to Zimbabwe in Tri-Nation Series

Bangladesh suffered a crushing 99-run defeat to Zimbabwe in the opening match of the tri-nation series in Abu Dhabi. Chasing a challenging target of 272, the Tigers were bowled out for just 172 in 33.4 overs. As a result, their next match against Afghanistan on October 21 has now become a must-win encounter.

After a promising start that yielded 47 runs, Bangladesh’s batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards following the first wicket. Tanzid Hasan Tamim top-scored with 46 runs, while Saif Hassan was the second-highest scorer with 26. None of the other middle-order batters managed to take responsibility and build a meaningful partnership. Zimbabwean pacer Brad Evans led the attack with four crucial wickets for 45 runs, accelerating Bangladesh’s downfall.

Earlier, Zimbabwe found themselves in early trouble after losing three wickets for just 24 runs. However, they recovered through impressive innings from Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine. The duo added 150 runs for the fourth wicket, helping Zimbabwe post a formidable total of 271 for eight in their allotted 50 overs. Taskin Ahmed was Bangladesh’s most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 44 runs, but the expensive bowling performances of the other bowlers allowed Zimbabwe to build a substantial total.
