New Zealand Make Major Squad Changes to Manage Pacers Workload in India Series

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced several changes to its squad for the ongoing India-New Zealand T20I series as part of its workload management strategy for the team’s fast bowlers. The move is aimed at preventing player fatigue and ensuring the pacers remain fit and ready for the upcoming matches, the cricket board said in a statement.

As part of the plan, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson will miss the third T20I of the series, scheduled to take place in Wellington. He will travel directly to Auckland on Sunday, where he will be available for the fourth and fifth T20Is, scheduled for October 30 and November 1, respectively.

Meanwhile, Matt Henry, who featured in the first two matches in Christchurch, will be rested for the remaining three T20Is of the series. He will stay in Christchurch before joining the team in Auckland ahead of the first ODI against India, scheduled to begin on November 4.

Kyle Jamieson, who did not feature in the first two T20Is, will travel with the squad to Wellington for the third match. However, he will remain in Wellington afterwards to represent Canterbury against Wellington in the second round of the Ford Trophy on October 31. He will then travel to Auckland ahead of the ODI series.

Additionally, Blair Tickner has been added to the squad in Wellington for the final three T20Is to strengthen the team’s fast-bowling resources. Josh Clarkson will join the squad in Auckland for the final two T20Is. Meanwhile, Matt Fisher will travel with the team as pace-bowling cover for the third T20I. Following the match, he will return to the New Zealand A squad to prepare for the second four-day match against India A.

It is worth noting that India currently lead the five-match T20I series 2-0 after winning both of the first two matches in Christchurch by four wickets. Following the five-match T20I series, the two teams will face each other in five ODIs and two Test matches.
