India Rope in Six Net Bowlers for Afghanistan Test Preparations
India have begun preparations for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan by bringing in six net bowlers to assist the team during training ahead of the match, which is scheduled to start on June 6 in New Chandigarh.
The list of net bowlers includes pacers Auqib Nabi, Prince Yadav and Gurjapneet Singh, while Shivang Kumar, Saransh Jain and Zeeshan Ansari will provide spin options.
Among them, Auqib Nabi was considered a strong contender for a place in the Test squad. The pacer played a key role in Jammu and Kashmir’s maiden Ranji Trophy triumph last season, producing outstanding performances throughout the tournament. He finished as the leading wicket-taker with 60 wickets at an average of 12.56 and was named the Player of the Tournament.
However, India’s selectors eventually opted for only three specialist fast bowlers in the Test squad Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar leaving Nabi out of the final squad.
This will be only the second Test match between India and Afghanistan. The two sides previously met in a Test in Bengaluru in 2018, which was Afghanistan’s inaugural Test match. India won that game by an innings and 262 runs, with the match ending inside just two days.
