Zakir Hasan Replaces Injured Shadman Islam in Second Test
Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out of the second Test of the ongoing series against Pakistan due to a chest injury. He has been replaced in the squad by left-handed batter Zakir Hasan.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the development in an official media release on Thursday. The second Test of the series is scheduled to begin on May 16 in Sylhet.
National team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said that Shadman Islam suffered a chest injury while attempting a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. Medical examinations later confirmed a traumatic chest contusion. Following medical advice, he has been rested for the second Test.
The physio further added that Shadman is being closely monitored and his rehabilitation process will begin as required. However, there is currently no specific timeline for his return to competitive cricket.
In Shadman’s absence, Zakir Hasan has been included in the squad. The 28-year-old left-handed opener returns to the Test side after last playing in November 2024.
