Shadman’s Century Anchors Bangladesh Despite Late Setback on Day 2
Bangladesh ended the second session of Day 2 of the Chattogram Test at 205 for 3 in 57 overs, still trailing Zimbabwe by 22 runs in the first innings. The highlight of the day was Sadman Islam’s composed and career-best century, though two quick wickets before tea halted Bangladesh’s momentum.
The day began brightly for the hosts as openers Anamul Haque Bijoy and Sadman Islam extended their partnership to 118 — Bangladesh’s first century stand for the opening wicket in 12 Test innings. However, the stand was broken shortly after lunch when Anamul was dismissed for 39 off 80 balls, including four boundaries.
Sadman continued unfazed, combining with Mominul Haque to keep the scoreboard ticking. Displaying a mix of patience and control, Sadman brought up his second Test century — both of which have come against Zimbabwe. He was eventually dismissed for 120, his highest Test score, after facing 181 balls and hitting 16 fours and a six. He fell leg-before to Brian Bennett in the final minutes before the tea break.
Just an over earlier, Mominul threw away his wicket trying to clear the boundary, caught for 33 off 64 balls (2 fours, 1 six) off Wellington Masakadza. His dismissal and Sadman’s quick departure left Bangladesh in a slightly vulnerable position after a dominant session.
Despite the late stutter, Bangladesh remain in a strong position. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (2*) and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim (9*) are at the crease as the Tigers look to build a first-innings lead.
The session saw Bangladesh add 100 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 31 overs, with the openers laying a strong foundation and Sadman Islam standing tall as the day’s standout performer.
