Bangladesh registered their first Test win of 2025 in dominant fashion, thrashing Zimbabwe by an innings and 106 runs in the second Test at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. The emphatic victory levels the two-match series 1–1 under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto.

On a spin-friendly track, the hosts wrapped up the game within three days as Zimbabwe crumbled under the combined spin assault of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam. Miraz was the undisputed star of the match, scoring a century and following it up with a five-wicket haul—his 13th in Test cricket.

After conceding a 217-run lead in the first innings, Zimbabwe’s batting lineup collapsed like a house of cards. Taijul Islam struck early with two wickets in three balls, before Mehidy took over in the final session.

Following the tea break, Nayeem Hasan dismissed Sean Williams for 7, breaking a brief resistance. Miraz then triggered a collapse, removing captain Craig Ervine (25), Wesley Madhevere, and Tafadzwa Tsiga in quick succession—reducing Zimbabwe from 69/3 to 73/7.

Ben Curran, who looked steady, found some support from Wellington Masakadza, but an ill-advised shot saw Masakadza fall to Miraz, who completed his five-wicket haul in the next over by dismissing Curran.

Taijul Islam then wrapped up the innings, claiming his third wicket by having Richard Ngarava caught by Hasan Mahmud.

This comprehensive win not only marks Bangladesh’s return to winning ways in Test cricket but also underlines the impact of their spinners on home soil.
