Miraz’s Century and Taijul’s Double Strike Put Bangladesh on Top in Chattogram Test
Bangladesh tightened their grip on the Chattogram Test as Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s brilliant century gave the hosts a 217-run first innings lead, followed by a fiery spell from Taijul Islam that left Zimbabwe reeling in their second innings.
Resuming on 291 for 7, Bangladesh were bowled out for 444 in the second session on Day 3. Miraz led the charge with a superb 104, his second Test century, as Bangladesh built a commanding total in response to Zimbabwe’s 227.
Taijul Islam then lit up the session with the ball, striking twice in the same over. He first dismissed Brian Bennett with a sharp delivery caught in the slips, then trapped Nick Welch in front just one ball later. His double strike came in the 7th over of the innings, piling pressure on the visitors early.
At stumps on the third session, Zimbabwe were struggling at 17 for 2 after 9 overs. Sean Williams was unbeaten on 3, while Ben Curran was not out on 8 off 25 balls. Zimbabwe still trail by 200 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
With a dominant lead and early breakthroughs, Bangladesh now have a realistic chance of securing an innings victory if the momentum continues.
