A Return in the Ashes Brings Good News as Cummins Leads Australia
At the start of the Ashes, Australia’s regular captain Pat Cummins missed the first two Tests due to injury, yet the team showcased their dominance by winning both matches. Now, the big news for the side is that Cummins has returned fully fit for the third Test in Adelaide.
On Wednesday, Cricket Australia announced the 15-man squad for the Adelaide Test, with the only change being the return of captain Cummins. No one from the previous squad has been dropped.
The 32-year-old pace all-rounder Cummins had suffered a lower-back injury during the West Indies tour in July, which ruled him out of the first two Ashes Tests. Coach Andrew McDonald said, “We feel he has returned to the squad in the best possible preparation.”
Opener Usman Khawaja, who had lost some form due to injury, has also retained his place in the team. Leading England 2-0, Australia will take the field for the third Test in Adelaide on 17 December.
While all pacers played in the pink-ball Test in Brisbane, off-spinner Nathan Lyon will return to the playing XI in Adelaide. After Adelaide, the Boxing Day Test will be held in Melbourne, followed by the New Year Test in Sydney.
Australia’s squad for the third Test:
Pat Cummins (captain), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster.
