Australia Seal ODI Series with One-Wicket Win Over Zimbabwe in Thrilling Final Over

Australia secured a 3-0 ODI series sweep against Zimbabwe after beating the hosts by one wicket in an edge-of-the-seat thriller that went down to the final over.

Chasing Zimbabwe’s target of 272 runs, Australia reached the winning mark with just one ball to spare. Opener Josh Inglis was the key architect of Australia’s thrilling victory, scoring a brilliant century off 102 balls. His 103-run knock earned him the Player of the Match award.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to bat first. Led by an unbeaten 81 from captain Sikandar Raza and responsible half-centuries from Craig Ervine (59) and Innocent Kaia (55), Zimbabwe posted a challenging 271 for 8 in their 50 overs. Opener Brian Bennett also contributed 30 runs off 29 balls.

For Australia, Nathan Ellis was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 50 runs. Spinner Adam Zampa and pacer Spencer Johnson chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Australia got off to a difficult start in the 272-run chase. Under pressure from Brad Evans, Travis Head (6) and captain Mitchell Marsh (8) were dismissed with Australia’s score still only 25. Josh Inglis then took charge and steadied the innings. After sharing a partnership with Cooper Connolly (21), he continued to accelerate alongside Alex Carey (34).

However, Inglis was dismissed for 103, triggering a dramatic collapse in Australia’s batting lineup. At one stage, Australia were staring at defeat after losing their ninth wicket for 245 runs.

Brad Evans was Zimbabwe’s standout bowler with four wickets, while Sikandar Raza and Graeme Cremer claimed two wickets each to keep Australia under pressure. But Nathan Ellis and No. 10 batter Spencer Johnson stood firm in the final-wicket partnership and produced an extraordinary fightback.

The pair added an unbeaten 27 runs to take Australia over the line with one ball remaining, sealing an unforgettable one-wicket victory. Ellis finished unbeaten on 36, while Johnson remained not out on 7 as Australia completed the thrilling win.
