Jack Edwards Called Up for South Africa ODIs, Stanlake Ruled Out

New South Wales all-rounder Jack Edwards has been called up to Australia’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa due to fast bowler Billy Stanlake’s injury and Spencer Johnson’s workload management.

The 26-year-old Edwards recently stepped down as New South Wales captain to focus more on his batting and bowling. He made his international debut in the T20I series against Pakistan. Although he is yet to make his ODI debut, he was briefly included in Australia’s ODI squad for the series against India last season. He received the national team’s emergency call-up while in India with Australia A for a four-day match against India A.

Billy Stanlake suffered a side strain while bowling his fifth over during the second ODI of Australia’s three-match series against Zimbabwe. Australia went on to win the series 3-0, with the visitors securing a thrilling one-wicket victory in the final match.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Spencer Johnson, who played two ODIs against Zimbabwe and formed the match-winning partnership with Nathan Ellis in the final game, has been rested.

Australia’s tour of South Africa will begin with a three-match ODI series, with the first match scheduled to take place in Durban on September 24. The second ODI will be played on September 27, followed by the third and final ODI at the Oval on September 30.

The three-match Test series will begin after the ODI series. The first Test will be played at Kingsmead in Durban from October 9 to 13. The second Test will take place at St George’s Park in Gqeberha from October 18 to 22. The third and final Test of the tour is scheduled for October 27 to 31.
