Shakib Al Hasan Postpones His Transfer to Legends of Rupganj in Dhaka Premier League
Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team, had earlier made headlines for signing up with Legends of Rupganj for the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL). However, just a day after the news broke, Shakib informed the Rupganj management that he would be postponing his transfer.
While Shakib had initially agreed to play for Legends of Rupganj in this year's DPL, political reasons have prevented him from returning to the country to represent the club. As a result, he has requested the management of Rupganj to halt his transfer for the time being.
Due to these unforeseen circumstances, Shakib will not be returning to Bangladesh for the DPL. In the last Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he was signed by Chittagong Kings, but similar political reasons prevented him from returning to participate.
Shakib, who was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Awami League in the 12th national elections, went abroad in July last year. The situation changed drastically when the Awami League government collapsed in August, and Shakib found himself facing multiple legal charges, including a murder case.
The Dhaka Premier League is set to begin in the first week of March, with the team transfers taking place at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium on Sunday and Monday. On Saturday, Shakib filled out his transfer form online and submitted it to the CCDM. However, today, Rupganj's manager, Tariqul Islam Titu, confirmed that Shakib's transfer has been postponed.
