Timed Out After Angelo Mathews, Saud Shakil Becomes the Latest Victim
In the final of the President's Trophy at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Saud Shakil became the latest player to be "timed out" while playing for State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) against Pakistan Television (PTV). Shakil became the first Pakistani and the seventh player in first-class cricket history to be timed out. Local media in Pakistan reported that Shakil missed his turn to bat due to being asleep.
During the SBP-PTV match, Shakil was in a deep sleep, and when his turn to bat came, he failed to wake up on time. As a result, the umpires declared him "timed out," making him the seventh player in the history of first-class cricket and the only Pakistani player to face such an unusual dismissal.
In the 27th over of the innings, Umar Amin and Fawad Alam were dismissed off the third and fourth deliveries, respectively. Mohammad Shehzad then took two wickets in successive balls, leaving Shakil unable to prepare for the next delivery in the crucial three-minute window.
PTV captain Amad Butt appealed, and the on-field umpire declared Shakil out. Interestingly, Shehzad picked up another wicket on the following delivery, completing a hat-trick. As a result, SBP went from a comfortable 128/1 to a fragile 128/5 in just three balls. They were eventually bowled out for 205 runs.
Shakil, who was expected to bat next, never emerged from the dressing room. Four minutes later, he was officially declared "timed out," making him the ninth player in men's professional cricket to be dismissed in this rare fashion.
