Rangpur Division defeated Sylhet Division by 5 wickets in the final of the Zia Cricket Tournament, clinching the championship title. Sylhet first batted and scored 143 runs, while Rangpur successfully chased down the target, losing 5 wickets with 4 balls to spare.
The match took place on Sunday at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium. Sylhet's first wicket fell at 13 runs when Imtiaz Tanna was dismissed for 11. Another opener, Sahnaz Ahmed, scored 17 runs before being sent back. The Rangpur bowlers continued their dominance, picking up quick wickets, and Sylhet found themselves in deep trouble at just 50 runs for 5 wickets.
At this crucial juncture, Washif Akbar stepped up for Sylhet. He played an outstanding innings, scoring 58 runs off 41 balls, including 5 fours and 3 sixes. Zahinul Islam supported with an unbeaten 13 runs, helping Sylhet to reach 143 runs by the end of their 20 overs, losing all wickets.
Rangpur's bowlers put on a brilliant performance, with Saklein, Nazmul Islam Munna, Galib, and Ankon each taking two wickets.
Chasing a target of 144 runs, Rangpur started off strong. Although one opener, Rizwan, was dismissed for a duck, the other opener and captain, Abdullah Mamun, played a crucial knock of 66 runs off 59 balls, including 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Zakirul Islam Jem contributed 17 runs, and Ankon made 10 runs. Nabeen Islam scored 30 runs off 21 balls, bringing Rangpur closer to the target. In the end, Rangpur secured the victory with 4 balls to spare.
For Sylhet, Alok Kapali and Sofer Ali each took two wickets. Abdullah Mamun of Rangpur was named the Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
Rangpur Division emerged as the deserving champions of the Zia Cricket Tournament after an exciting and closely contested final.
