Shuvagata Seals Victory for Dhaka with a Last-Ball Six; Naim Stars in Dhaka Metro’s Win
In the opening match of the National Cricket League T20 (NCL T20), Dhaka Metro claimed a 31-run victory over Barishal. Chasing a target of 192 runs, Barishal were restricted to 161 runs. In another thrilling encounter, Shuvagata Hom smashed a last-ball six to secure Dhaka's win against Sylhet in a high-scoring contest.
On Wednesday, at the Sylhet Academy Ground, Dhaka Metro set up a strong total of 192 runs, courtesy of a brilliant opening stand by Imranuzzaman and captain Naim Sheikh. The duo added 119 runs before Naim departed for a 35-ball 65, featuring 6 fours and 4 sixes. Imranuzzaman contributed 53 runs off 33 balls.
In the latter stages, Anisul Islam (15), Tahzibul Islam (36), and Abu Hider Rony (15) played handy cameos to push the score to 192. For Barishal, Mehidy Hasan took 2 wickets, conceding 28 runs in 4 overs.
In response, Barishal stumbled early, losing both openers quickly. Fazle Mahmud Rabbi steadied the innings with a superb knock of 77 off 52 balls, which included 4 fours and 5 sixes. He was supported by Ahrar Amin, who scored 19 off 15 balls.
Despite Sohag Gazi’s unbeaten 40 off 32 balls, Barishal fell short, managing only 161 for 8 in 20 overs. Rakibul Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for Dhaka Metro, claiming 3 wickets.
Shuvagata's Heroics in Another Thriller
At Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet posted a massive 205 runs, led by Jishan Alam’s scintillating century. Jishan scored 100 off 53 balls, with 4 fours and 10 sixes. Tawfiq Khan Tushar supported him with 29 off 17 balls, while Amit Hasan (26) and captain Mahfuzur Rabbi (30*) chipped in at the end. Nazmul Apu bagged 2 wickets for Dhaka.
Chasing 206, Dhaka’s captain Saif Hassan fell for a duck, putting them under pressure. Ariful Islam rescued the innings with a brilliant 94 off 46 balls, falling just 6 runs short of a century.
In the final overs, Mahidul Ankon and Shuvagata Hom kept Dhaka in the hunt. With 12 runs needed in the last over, only 2 runs came off the first three balls. Shuvagata then struck a boundary off the fourth ball and took a single off the fifth, leaving 5 runs to get from the last delivery. Facing Tofael Ahmed, Shuvagata smashed a six over long-off to clinch a dramatic victory for Dhaka. He remained unbeaten on 31 off 18 balls.
