The third and final ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies is being played today, with Bangladesh aiming to avoid a whitewash after losing the first two matches. Bangladesh posted a challenging total of 321 runs, thanks to strong finishing efforts from Mahmudullah Riyad and Zakir Ali Anik. Earlier, Soumya Sarkar and Mehedi Hasan Miraz had contributed with innings of 73 and 77 runs, respectively.
West Indies had already won the series before today's match at Warner Park. With the series lost, Bangladesh's challenge was to avoid a whitewash. After a 136-run partnership between Soumya and Miraz, Mahmudullah and Zakir formed a defiant 150-run stand, guiding Bangladesh to a strong total of 321 runs.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Bangladesh got off to a shaky start. Soumya Sarkar was given a life in the very first over, but the other opener, Tanzid Tamim, was dismissed for a duck. Liton Das also failed to make an impact and was dismissed for a duck in the third over by Alzarri Joseph. Liton’s performance in the series had been disappointing — scoring just 2 runs from 7 balls in the first ODI, 4 runs from 19 balls in the second, and today a duck in the third ODI.
After the early setbacks, Soumya Sarkar and Mehedi Hasan Miraz steadied the ship, combining for a 136-run partnership. This partnership laid the foundation for a big total. Soumya, playing superbly, was dismissed for 73 runs, falling victim to a leg-before decision. Miraz followed soon after, scoring 77 runs before being dismissed.
Sherfane Rutherford made two crucial breakthroughs, dismissing Miraz run out and removing Afif Hossain in quick succession, leaving Bangladesh at 171/5. However, Mahmudullah Riyad and Zakir Ali Anik ensured there were no further setbacks, guiding Bangladesh past 300 runs.
Mahmudullah Riyad and Zakir Ali Anik both played key roles in reaching 321 runs. Mahmudullah remained unbeaten on 84 off 63 balls, while Zakir Ali Anik contributed 62 runs before departing.
