India has achieved a remarkable victory over Bangladesh in just two days, showcasing aggressive batting despite rain interruptions. Ravi Chandran Ashwin revealed that the team's aim was to score around 400 runs in 50 overs.
In a post-match press conference, Ashwin explained the rationale behind their aggressive batting approach. "Our goal was to get close to 400 runs within 50 overs. If you’re playing that way and end up getting all out below 200, I don’t see that as a problem. We were trying to win. Rohit hit a six off the first ball, and that set the tone for the dressing room. We reached 50 runs in just three overs, and after that, we never looked back."
He added, "After getting them all out in the first innings, Rohit told us that we needed to bat for at least 20 overs. We thought we could get them out around the 70-over mark, so the pitch would assist us for at least 10 overs. I expected we might bat for an hour today, but we were aggressive right from the start, aiming to score as many runs as possible."
Ashwin also highlighted his personal achievement, winning a total of 11 Player of the Series awards against Bangladesh. He mentioned that just one more would surpass Muttiah Muralitharan's record, but he stated that awards no longer motivate him.
"I won’t comment on the future regarding this. I want to have special moments and perform well. Perhaps after retiring, I will cherish these memories. But these awards don’t motivate me much anymore. They don’t make a significant difference. I enjoy the game, and winning matches for my team and country is what brings me joy. Rahul Dravid used to say that you should remember the memories you created, not just the runs you scored or wickets you took. So, these moments are special for me."
Looking ahead to the upcoming series against Australia, Ashwin noted that he might be replaced by Ravindra Jadeja if he plays, but he is unfazed by the prospect of being sidelined. "It’s really simple. If Jaddu plays, then he plays. The best players will play. I’ve said this many times. If Jadeja plays, I will fully support him. Going to Australia or England and playing well to win Test matches makes me proud as an Indian. Nobody likes to be left out, but India has many options in this regard. However, such matters don’t bother me as much anymore."
