Shakib is back, Bangladesh post 159 on the board!
After completing their USA leg of the World Cup with one win and one loss, Bangladesh's mission now moves to the West Indies. To secure a spot in the Super Eights, defeating the Netherlands is crucial. In this important match, captain Shanto failed to score, and top-order batsman Liton Das also returned quickly. However, Shakib Al Hasan quickly erased the initial setback with a splendid performance, supported brilliantly by Tanzid Tamim. This match finally saw the true Shakib in the ongoing T20 World Cup, as he smashed his 4th fifty in T20 World Cups, easily tackling the Dutch bowlers.
Shakib's return to form is beneficial for Bangladesh. In Shakib's comeback match, Bangladesh posted a significant total. The country's biggest star reached fifty off 38 balls with 7 boundaries. In the allotted 20 overs, Bangladesh scored 159 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. If they win against the Netherlands, Nazmul Hossain Shanto's team will be well on their way to the Super Eights.
Winning the toss and choosing to bat first in St. Vincent, Bangladesh faced an early crisis. Opening batsman and captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed for just 1 run. Shanto attempted a reverse sweep against Aryan Dutt but got caught at first slip. Following Shanto, Liton Das also returned to the pavilion for the same score of 1 run, thanks to an outstanding catch by Engelbrecht.
However, Bangladesh made a remarkable comeback in the match. Shakib, joining the settled Tanzid Tamim, became aggressive. Shakib's flurry of strokes brought runs all around St. Vincent. In the final over of the powerplay, Logan van Beek was challenged by Shakib and conceded 19 runs with 4 boundaries. Relying on Shakib's show, Bangladesh posted 54 runs on the scoreboard in 6 overs, their highest powerplay score in this World Cup.
In the next over, Tanzid Tamim attacked Bas de Leede with back-to-back boundaries. However, Tanzid Tamim couldn't stay long, as he was caught by de Leede while attempting a boundary off Paul van Meekeren. Tamim's dismissal ended a 48-run partnership with Shakib, coming off just 32 balls, after scoring 35 runs off 26 balls.
In-form batter Tawhid Hridoy was subdued today by Tim Pringle, scoring only 9 runs off 15 balls before losing his stumps while playing off the back foot. Shakib and Mahmudullah Riyad then took Bangladesh to 100 runs by the 14th over. Shakib reached his fifty off 38 balls, marking his 13th T20 international fifty. However, he was caught out on the next delivery after scoring 25 runs.
Despite this, Shakib's storm continued in St. Vincent. Zaker Ali Anik came in and played a cameo of 14 runs. Shakib remained unbeaten on 66 runs off 46 balls, leaving the field after anchoring the innings.
