Sunrisers Hyderabad secured victories in two consecutive matches. Playing at Mullapur, Punjab's home ground, Hyderabad first batted and scored 182 runs losing 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In response, Punjab Kings showcased their batting prowess by scoring 180 runs but lost 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. They fell short of victory by just 2 runs.
Starting the chase with a target of 183 runs, Punjab didn't start well. Losing the first 3 wickets for just 20 runs, the team faced early setbacks. While Shikhar Dhawan contributed 14 runs, Johnny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh added runs in single digits.
Despite the setback, Sam Curran and Sikandar Raza tried to lead Punjab's run chase. While Curran scored 29 runs off 58 balls, Raza added 28 runs when the team's total was 91.
With 14 overs remaining, Punjab needed to accelerate their run rate to secure victory. However, Shashank Singh and Jitesh Sharma tried to increase the run rate. Jitesh, however, was dismissed after scoring 19 runs off 11 balls.
Shashank stayed on the crease, joined by Ashutosh Sharma. These two batsmen tried their best to bring Punjab back into the game, increasing the strike rate. However, their efforts weren't enough. Despite Shashank's 46 runs off 25 balls and Ashutosh's 33 runs off 15 balls, Punjab couldn't secure a win.
Earlier, Hyderabad faced early setbacks after losing 3 wickets for just 39 runs during the powerplay. Abhishek Sharma's wicket added to the pressure as the team was 39 runs down. Nitish Kumar Reddy tried to stabilize the innings by scoring a half-century in the 13th over, but lacked support from the other end.
Henrich Klaasen couldn't contribute much with just 9 runs. Abdul Samad added some runs, scoring 25 runs off 12 balls, but it wasn't enough. However, Arshdeep Singh was impressive for Punjab, taking a total of 4 wickets.
Arshdeep's bowling effort, along with contributions from Shahbaz Ahmed who took 3 wickets for 14 runs in 7 balls, halted Hyderabad's run at 182, losing 9 wickets in their innings. Arshdeep Singh emerged as the highest wicket-taker for Punjab.
