On the day Taijul Islam reached 200 Test wickets, he also enjoyed the thrill of taking a five-wicket haul. Taijul achieved this milestone faster than Shakib Al Hasan. After the South African pace attack, it was a spin-dominated show in Mirpur, with Taijul ensnaring the Protea batters in his web of spin. Despite this, South Africa ended the day with a 34-run lead and four wickets in hand.
During the first day of the Mirpur Test, 16 wickets fell. After Bangladesh was bowled out for 106 in 40.1 overs, South Africa concluded the day at 140 for 6. Due to insufficient light, the umpires had to call off play with 17 minutes and 6 overs remaining. The first ball on the second day is scheduled for 9:45 AM local time.
Bangladesh claimed two wickets before the tea break. Upon resumption, Taijul showcased his skills, capturing four wickets and reaching the 200 Test wickets milestone. In a matter of moments, he also celebrated his 13th five-wicket haul in Tests. South Africa lost their sixth wicket for 108 runs, succumbing to Taijul's spin.
However, Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder posed a challenge for Bangladesh. Verreynne remained unbeaten on 18, while Mulder contributed 17 runs. These two batters will return to the crease aiming to extend South Africa's lead.
