I hope Shakib will not be arrested: Asif Nazrul

Shakib Al Hasan participated in the first Test in Rawalpindi despite facing murder charges. If the interim government's legal advisor's remarks are anything to go by, Shakib might be able to play the second match of the Pakistan series with some relief. It is now clear to everyone that the murder charges against Shakib are baseless. Professor Asif Nazrul has stated that such cases are always unexpected.

Shakib, one of the top players in the team and currently under a central contract with the BCB for all three formats, has also been in the spotlight off the field. Recently, he has been directly affected by the political power shifts in Bangladesh. Previously an elected member of parliament from the Awami League, Shakib lost his parliamentary seat when the government was overthrown amidst protests. Despite his party losing power, Shakib remains a national team cricketer, though he has now been implicated in a murder case. Shakib is currently on the Pakistan tour with the Bangladesh team.

In response to questions about Shakib, Interim Government Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul said on Wednesday at the Secretariat, "I hope Shakib will not be arrested. As far as I know, our police force has been instructed to maintain restraint within the bounds of the law as much as possible if something apparently unbelievable occurs."

Shakib was playing in the Global T20 League in Canada when the garment worker murder case charges were brought against him. Being out of the country for an extended period, he is expected to be welcomed back with the same affection from fans once the crisis is over. Despite the political instability, Shakib’s cricketing performance remains unaffected. He will continue playing, with the BCB supporting him. The cricket board has decided to provide all necessary legal assistance to Shakib. During this challenging time, Shakib also has the support of his teammates.

In a historic victory, Shakib played a crucial role with the ball, dismissing three Pakistani batters during the historic 10-wicket win in Rawalpindi. The second Test will be held in Karachi on August 30.

After the Pakistan series, Shakib will not return to Bangladesh immediately. He is expected to travel to England for county matches and will then proceed to India in mid-September for national team assignments, including Test and ODI series.
