Mushfiqur Rahim gets to his 11th Test century
The first session of the fourth day of the first Test has ended, but Bangladesh's first innings remains unfinished. The partnership between Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim, which had crossed the century mark, was broken this morning with Liton's dismissal. However, the resolute Mushfiqur Rahim reached his century and went into the lunch break unbeaten. Bangladesh is still trailing by 59 runs.
In the first hour of the fourth day, Bangladesh lost Liton Das. Since then, Mushfiqur Rahim has been steadily guiding the team forward, forming a partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Both batsmen have been handling Pakistan's pace and spin attack with impressive skill. Bangladesh's score stands at 389 for 6 after 117 overs. Miraz is batting on 17 runs off 44 balls, while Mushfiqur is at 101 runs off 208 balls.
The fourth day's play began today, Saturday, in Rawalpindi, with Liton and Mushfiqur resuming their unbeaten 98-run partnership. Liton, who scored a fifty yesterday in a One-Day International (ODI) style, couldn't progress much further today. The bowler he struck for 18 runs in an over to reach his fifty yesterday, Nasim Shah, was the same bowler who dismissed him today. Liton edged an extra bouncer to the wicketkeeper and was caught for 56, ending the 114-run partnership.
After Liton's departure, Mushfiqur Rahim continued to lead the team with responsible batting. Mehidy Hasan Miraz joined him as his new partner. Mushfiqur completed his century off 200 balls, marking the 11th century of his Test career.
