India was bowled out for a mere 46 runs in their first innings against New Zealand. In response, the Kiwis gained a significant lead, ending the second day of the first Test match with a 134-run advantage, despite rain preventing play on the first day.
At the end of the second day at the N. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, New Zealand had scored 180 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham provided a solid opening partnership, contributing 67 runs. Latham was dismissed for 15 runs, falling to a leg before wicket off Kuldeep Yadav's delivery.
Conway then formed another partnership of 75 runs with Will Young. Young scored 33 runs off 73 balls before getting out. Conway, falling just short of a century, returned to the pavilion for 91 runs. The remaining time in the day was spent by Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who remained unbeaten on 22 and 14 runs, respectively.
Earlier, India chose to bat after winning the toss on the second day. However, they were all out for just 46 runs in 31.2 overs. The team lost captain Rohit Sharma for just 9 runs. Virat Kohli went out for a duck after facing 9 balls, and Sarfaraz Khan also fell without scoring.
Rishabh Pant was the highest scorer for India with 20 runs, while Yashasvi Jaiswal added 13 runs. No other player could reach double digits, with five Indian batters dismissed for zero runs.
New Zealand's Matt Henry wreaked havoc on the Indian batting lineup, taking 5 wickets for just 15 runs, while Will Young took 4 wickets for 22 runs.
