Shakib Al Hasan Wishes to Play Another T20 World Cup
Shakib Al Hasan, who is going to play in nine consecutive T20 World Cups, wishes to participate in yet another T20 World Cup. "I hope I can play in another World Cup," said Shakib Al Hasan, expressing his desire for the next World Cup.
After the upcoming World Cup in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies, Shakib aims to shine in another World Cup. He made it clear that this won't be his last; he intends to play well in the 2024 World Cup and in the subsequent tournament.
Shakib Al Hasan and Indian captain Rohit Sharma are the only players who have participated in all T20 World Cups held so far. The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, which began in 2007, is set to start in just one day.
Shakib is eyeing the 2026 T20 World Cup as well. He hopes to perform well in this World Cup and play in another one. In a special video series by the BCB titled "The Green Red Story" for the 2024 T20 World Cup, Shakib expressed his wish to play in another World Cup:
"From the first World Cup till now, I have been able to participate in all the T20 World Cups. It’s a matter of pride and joy for me. Representing my country at the same time gives me a lot of satisfaction. Rohit Sharma and I are probably the only two players who have played in all the T20 World Cups. I hope to play in another World Cup. But before that, I want to perform well in this World Cup so that Bangladesh can achieve better results than in any previous T20 World Cup."
For Shakib, playing in all T20 World Cups is a matter of pride and great satisfaction. As the USA is like a second home to Shakib, he is eager to make a mark there:
"My second home is okay. However, it’s hard to say if we’ll have a home advantage. But I think we will. Both in the West Indies and America, we have done well whenever we played. In the West Indies, we always get an advantage because the pitches are similar to ours. So, I hope we will benefit in both places."
