India crush Bangladesh to take a huge step into the semifinals
Bangladesh's hopes of reaching the semifinals were dashed. With a loss to India in the second Super Eight match, the Tigers are almost certain to exit the tournament. Batting first in Antigua, India scored 196 runs in 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh faced their familiar batting collapse. Ultimately, Bangladesh managed to score only 146 runs, losing the match by 50 runs.
In the crucial battle to stay in contention for the World Cup semifinals, Bangladesh's players showed a helpless surrender. Throughout the match, India maintained complete dominance. Nazmul Hossain Shanto's team failed to put the Indian players to a tough test in this important Super Eight match. Bangladesh's dream of playing in the World Cup semifinals ends here. However, they still have a match left against Afghanistan.
Chasing the formidable target of 197 runs, Bangladesh's two openers started cautiously. Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who had failed in previous matches, looked comfortable this time. Liton Das, who tried to be aggressive, lost his wicket. After hitting a six over mid-wicket off Hardik Pandya, Liton attempted another boundary on the next ball but was caught due to mistiming.
Liton Das returned to the pavilion with a personal score of 13, breaking the opening partnership of 35 runs. Tanzid Tamim then found Nazmul Hossain Shanto as his partner at number three. Bangladesh almost lost Tamim's wicket during the powerplay. At 24 runs, Tamim edged a ball from Bumrah but survived thanks to Rishab's mistake. Bangladesh ended the first six overs with 42 runs on the scoreboard.
Kuldeep Yadav came into action and trapped Tanzid Hasan Tamim leg-before-wicket. Tamim scored 29 runs from 31 balls, including four boundaries, but could not save his wicket even with a review. Kuldeep took another wicket in his next over, trapping Towhid Hridoy leg-before-wicket. Shakib Al Hasan failed again with the bat, giving Kuldeep another wicket.
Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto was dismissed after scoring 30 runs off 32 balls. Zakir Ali Anik managed only one run. Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets in consecutive overs, completely knocking Bangladesh out of the match. In the end, Rishad Hossain reduced the margin of defeat with a cameo of 24 runs from 10 balls, hitting three sixes and one four. Just one ball before the innings ended, Mahmudullah Riyad was dismissed for 13 runs, and Bangladesh lost their eighth wicket.
Bangladesh's innings finally stopped at 146 runs for eight wickets. India won by a big margin of 50 runs, making their path to the semifinals easier with consecutive victories.
