Gary Kirsten Resigns as Pakistan's White-Ball Coach Ahead of Australia Tour
Pakistan's cricket team has received significant bad news ahead of their tour of Australia, as Gary Kirsten has resigned from his position as the white-ball coach less than six months into his tenure. He was appointed in April on a two-year contract. For the upcoming series against Australia, the red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie, will take over as the head coach.
According to cricket-focused website ESPN Cricinfo, Kirsten had wished to provide his input on the announcement of the new squad and captain but was not consulted. He was absent during the press conference where Mohammad Rizwan was named captain.
The dissatisfaction between Kirsten and Gillespie stemmed primarily from the removal of coaching selection powers, which now rests solely with the selection committee. Gillespie recently stated that he is now only a "match-day analyst" and that he did not sign up for this arrangement.
Kirsten has not made any public comments regarding his resignation, but by stepping down, he has made it clear that he is not satisfied with the situation.
During the Australia tour, Pakistan will play three ODIs and three T20Is, with the ODI series starting in Melbourne on November 4.
