Strict workload management keeps Seales out of Hampshire stint
Cricket West Indies have taken a strategic decision regarding the use of their premier fast bowlers ahead of a busy international schedule. As part of that plan, the board has refused to grant Jayden Seales a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for English county side Hampshire.
Hampshire had signed Seales as a replacement for Australia’s Michael Neser. However, shortly after the deal was completed, it was confirmed that he would not be available to play in the early part of the season. The board stated that Seales’ workload will be carefully monitored alongside Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph to ensure they remain fully fit for the important series ahead.
Cricket West Indies director of cricket Miles Bascombe said, “Our fast bowlers are among the most valuable assets of the team. They will carry significant responsibility across all formats this season. Therefore, we are managing them in a planned way so they are at their best when it matters most.”
Seales has been made available for the first two rounds of the regional West Indies Championship, which begins next month. Meanwhile, Shamar Joseph will feature from the second round onwards and will take part in structured practice sessions beforehand as per a defined plan.
Alzarri Joseph, who has been out of action since September due to a back injury, has been granted permission to play for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, his fitness and performance will be closely monitored throughout the tournament.
West Indies are set to host Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan in the coming months. Following the Caribbean Premier League, the team will then tour India and Bangladesh. Considering the demanding schedule, the board has implemented an early and structured plan to manage the workload of its fast bowlers.
