It was a fantastic day for Bangladesh in the West Indies. After dominating with the ball, the batters also delivered a surprise. Nahid Rana produced a career-best bowling performance, taking 5 wickets for 61 runs. After the day's play, Bangladesh's pace bowling coach, Andre Adams, praised the young bowler, saying that if Nahid bowls at 150 km/h, wickets will inevitably come his way.
On the third day of the Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica, Nahid Rana set the field ablaze with his incredible bowling. The West Indies' innings collapsed in no time. Nahid’s career-best performance proved to be crucial for Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the batters also executed their plans successfully. At the close of play, Bangladesh had reached 193 for 5, leading by 211 runs.
Speaking about the day’s play, Bangladesh's pace bowling coach Andre Adams said, "It was a very good day. We wanted to respond strongly, and we did that effectively. The way the bowlers bowled was really pleasing. Today's batting was also exceptional."
After being bowled out for just 164 in their first innings of the Kingston Test, Bangladesh bowled out the West Indies for 146 in their second innings. Nahid’s impressive figures of 18-1-61-5 marked his career-best in Test cricket. This was also his first-ever five-wicket haul in the format. Thanks to his brilliant bowling, Bangladesh took a lead in the first innings with a total score under 200 for the second time in Test history.
Regarding Nahid's first-ever five-wicket haul, Bangladesh's bowling coach said, "We knew this would come at some point (a 5-wicket haul). When you bowl at 150 km/h, wickets will eventually come your way."
Nahid Rana's improvement in bowling has been remarkable. Adams shared the story of Nahid's growth from a ‘wild’ bowler to an accurate one: "In the last year, he's become much more accurate than before. When he started in February, his bowling was a bit erratic. Now, he has made tremendous progress. With fantastic pace, he now also has consistency. We give him some advice, and the rest is down to his natural talent."
"He’s a young bowler, and he bowls very fast. We need to manage his bowling workload. That's why he wasn't played in the first Test. Despite his youth, we are fortunate to have bowlers like Taskin and Hasan to assist him, and Captain Mehedi Miraz has done a great job handling him."
