15 Years Later, Bangladesh Wins a Test in the West Indies: Jaker Ali Anik's Emotional Tribute to His Father

After a 15-year wait, Bangladesh has finally secured a Test victory in the West Indies, defeating the hosts by 101 runs in the second Test at Kingston. West Indies were bowled out for 185 in their second innings, and Bangladesh's historic win was sealed. Among the heroes of this historic victory was Jaker Ali Anik, who played a crucial role with a brilliant 91-run innings.

This win marked Bangladesh's first Test victory on West Indian soil since the 2009 Grenada Test, ending a long drought for the team. In that series, Jaker, at the age of 11, was watching the match on TV with his father. Now, 15 years later, Jaker has become a key player in a similar series, contributing significantly to Bangladesh's victory.

In a heartfelt post on his Facebook profile, Jaker Ali Anik paid a tribute to his late father, sharing a touching memory:

"I was 11 years old back then. I never missed a match of that 2009 series, staying up all night to watch Bangladesh play. My father would wake up early in the morning to find me watching the game. He was surprised but never scolded me. 15 years later, I am playing for Bangladesh in the same series. If my father was alive, he would have stayed up to watch the game. Anyway, this is for you, Abba ❤️"

In this Test, Bangladesh's win was built on the back of superb performances. After Nahid Rana's 5-wicket haul in the first innings, the batting attack, led by Jaker Ali Anik, set a competitive target. Jaker's 91 runs played a crucial role in Bangladesh maintaining control over the match. Finally, the task was completed by Taijul Islam, whose match-winning spell of 5 wickets secured the victory for Bangladesh.

This emotional win not only marked a significant milestone for Bangladesh but also served as a tribute to Jaker's father, who had been a key influence on his cricketing journey.
