Papon expressed his anxiety and relief after the intense game
In a nail-biting match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh emerged victorious, a game that swung back and forth, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Among those who experienced the intense excitement was Nazmul Hassan Papon, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Jalal Yunus, Chairman of BCB's Cricket Operations, shared the President’s reaction with the media. After the match, Papon called Yunus and said, "You almost gave me a heart attack."
Apart from being the BCB President, Nazmul Hassan Papon is also a devoted fan of Bangladesh cricket. He watches the games with great enthusiasm. Watching the nerve-wracking first World Cup match against Sri Lanka led him to express his overwhelming tension to Yunus.
Jalal Yunus further elaborated on Papon’s reaction: "I was in the car talking to the President, and he said, 'You almost gave me a heart attack.' I told him, 'It wasn't just you, our hearts were in a bad state too.'"
The Bangladesh cricket team is currently in the United States for the T20 World Cup, while the Board President remains in Bangladesh, keeping a close watch on the team and participating in meetings virtually.
Yunus mentioned, “When we were discussing, the President was with us. We were talking virtually the day before the match. He later told me, ‘The team seems very confident. They sounded positive.’ I responded, ‘Yes, we lost the series, but the team had the confidence to make a comeback.’”
After securing the full 2 points with the win against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh is now feeling much more confident. The Tigers’ next match is scheduled for Monday against South Africa at Nassau County Stadium in New York.
