Sachin in the Race for BCCI President? SRT Says, Baseless Rumors

Ahead of the upcoming Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) elections on September 28, a rumor has stirred the cricketing fraternity. Speculation was rife that Sachin Tendulkar would replace current president Roger Binny to take the board’s top post.

However, Sachin’s management company, SRT Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., has dismissed the news as “completely baseless and a mere rumor.”

In a statement on Thursday, the company said, “Reports and rumors have been circulating regarding Shri Sachin Tendulkar being considered or nominated for the post of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We want to state unequivocally that no such thing has happened. We urge everyone not to pay heed to such rumors.”

The company further appealed to all not to be misled by such unfounded speculation. The regular BCCI elections are scheduled for September 28, where voting will take place for five key positions: president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer.

Roger Binny, a member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning squad, became BCCI president in October 2022, succeeding Sourav Ganguly. Although the official tenure for a BCCI president is three years, Binny had to step down earlier this month, as the BCCI constitution does not allow anyone over the age of 70 to hold the post.

While speculation continues over who will fill the vacancy, Sachin Tendulkar’s name is now firmly ruled out.
