14 Bangladeshi Stars, Including Shakib & Mustafizur, Enter SA20 Auction

A total of 14 Bangladeshi cricketers, led by Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, have been shortlisted for the player auction of South Africa’s premier franchise tournament, SA20 Season 4. The auction will take place on9 September in Johannesburg, featuring 541 players in total, including 241 overseas stars.

The Bangladeshi names in the auction are: Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Sheikh Mahedi Hasan, Taijul Islam, Towhid Hridoy, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, and Zakir Ali Anik.

Among them, world-renowned all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been highlighted by the organizers as “Bangladesh’s greatest-ever cricketer.” Initially, 23 Bangladeshis had registered for the auction, but 10 were left out of the final shortlist.

The auction pool also features global icons including England’s James Anderson, Alex Hales, and Moeen Ali, as well as South African stars Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Reeza Hendricks. Each SA20 franchise must build a 19-member squad, with at least two U-23 players.

Pretoria Capitals will enter the auction with the biggest purse of 32.5 million Rand (approx. $1.86m), while MI Cape Town hold the smallest purse of 11.5 million Rand (approx. $0.65m).

If picked, it will mark a historic moment for Bangladesh cricket, as no Bangladeshi player has ever featured in the SA20 before. The tournament kicks off on 26 December 2025, with the auction broadcast live on Sky Sports and the official SA20 YouTube channel.
