West Indies defeated Australia in the warm-up game
West Indies have kicked off their preparations for the World Cup by defeating Australia in their welcome. With a response of 257 runs, Australia may find it challenging to make 222. It can be said that both teams have shown good batting performances before the start of the World Cup. However, Windies players made a mistake in underestimating Spain's Port of Spain, winning the match by 35 runs.
Losing the toss, Australia welcomed with 257 runs for 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Despite aiming high, they couldn't manage to score more than 222, losing 7 wickets. Nicholas Pooran stole the show with a blazing bat, scoring 75 runs off just 25 balls with 5 fours and 8 sixes, leading his team to victory in style.
Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell's destructive batting left no chance for the Aussie bowlers. Pooran touched personal half-century mark in just 16 balls. He left the field after playing an innings of 75 runs off 25 balls. Captain Rovman Powell scored 52 runs off 25 balls before returning to the pavilion. His innings included 4 fours and 6 sixes.
Towards the end of the innings, Shamarh Brooks remained unbeaten with 47 runs off 18 balls. He also hit 4 fours and 4 sixes. Before him, opening batsman Johnson Charles scored 40 runs off 31 balls. Another opener, Shai Hope, contributed 14 runs off 8 balls before bidding farewell. With this, West Indies gathered 257 runs with a loss of 4 wickets.
Despite a daunting target, Australia failed to start their innings on a strong note as David Warner fell victim to a bold delivery from Shamahar Joseph in the second over of the innings, returning to the pavilion with just 15 runs. Captain Mitchell Marsh also lost his wicket after scoring 4 runs. Another wicket fell before the end of powerplay as Aston Agar became Obed McCoy's prey.
Then Australia returned to the match. English Josh Inglish's innings of 55 runs came from only 30 balls. Tim David scored 25 runs off 12 balls, while Matthew Wade scored 25 runs off 14 balls. However, this wasn't enough for the team's victory. Towards the end, Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa reduced the margin of defeat for Australia.
