Tanzim Sakib's Account of Incident with Rohit Paudel
In the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup match against Nepal, Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Sakib was seen in a heated exchange with Nepal captain Rohit Paudel. The incident occurred on the final ball of the 3rd over of Nepal's innings. Sakib had just taken two wickets in that over, and tensions escalated, leading to an on-field argument between the two players.
On-field umpire Sam Nogajski intervened to calm the situation. At the time, the reason for the argument was unclear. However, post-match in the mixed zone, Tanzim Sakib explained the altercation to the media.
Tanzim Sakib said, “It was instinctive, not premeditated. He was staring at me aggressively, which I didn't like. I asked him, why are you staring at me? I was just trying to bowl in the right areas. Aggressive mentality comes naturally; it's not something I plan.”
Before the match against Nepal, Sakib had indicated his intent to play aggressively. He believes, “At any moment, one has to be aggressive. Attack is the best defense. I was telling Rohit that the task is not easy. Alhamdulillah, we won the match.”
In the match against Nepal, Tanzim Sakib took 4 wickets in 4 overs. When asked if this was his best spell for Bangladesh, Tanzim responded, “I think so too. I really enjoyed bowling this spell. I enjoyed bowling today. Nepal’s pacers did well too, we noticed that. They got extra bounce, which we discussed. We wanted to bowl fast on the wicket and see what happens.”
