Tanzim Hasan Sakib Didn’t Know He Set a Record
Before the match against Nepal in the ICC T20 World Cup, Tanzim Hasan Sakib mentioned in a press conference that he would play aggressive cricket. True to his words, he single-handedly dismantled Nepal’s top order. The pacer took 4 wickets in his 4 overs.
Along with taking wickets, Tanzim Sakib set a new record on the day. He now holds the second-best bowling figures for Bangladesh in the World Cup. Only Mustafizur Rahman is ahead of him. In 2016, Mustafizur took 5 wickets for 22 runs against New Zealand in Kolkata.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib also claimed the record for the most dot balls in an innings in the World Cup. He became the first Bangladeshi to bowl two maiden overs in a World Cup innings. He delivered 21 dot balls in a single innings, the highest by any bowler in the World Cup.
When asked in the mixed zone if he was aware of his new record, Sakib replied that he found out only then. Regarding his feelings about the achievement, Sakib said:
“I just found out. Actually, I don’t feel anything right now. Maybe it will sink in later. At that moment, my mind was only focused on taking wickets.”
Speaking about his self-confidence, Sakib said, “It’s crucial for every player to not accept defeat before actually losing. I never think that I’ve lost. If I lose, there’s something to learn from it; if I perform well, it shows I’m doing well. Bad days may come, but my focus remains on what I can learn from the experience. That’s why you might sense confidence in my words.”
When asked if he considers himself the best like others do, Sakib replied, “Definitely, I am preparing myself in this way. I have faith in myself and a lot of faith in my team. We will go far, In Sha Allah.”
