Sairaj Bahutule Appointed Indias New Spin Bowling Coach
Former all-rounder Sairaj Bahutule has been appointed as the new Spin Bowling Coach of the Indian cricket team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the appointment through a media release on Monday.
Bahutule brings extensive experience both as a player and a coach. He represented India in two Test matches and eight One-Day Internationals. During a first-class career that spanned nearly two decades, the all-rounder scored 6,176 runs and claimed 630 wickets.
As a coach, Bahutule has served as the head coach of Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat and Bengal. He has also worked as a spin-bowling coach with IPL franchises Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings.
He has played a significant role in India’s player development pathway. Bahutule was the bowling coach of India’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup-winning team in 2022 and was also part of the coaching staff for the 2024 edition of the tournament. In addition, he has worked with India A and the senior national team on multiple occasions as a specialist bowling coach.
From 2021 to 2024, Bahutule was part of the coaching setup at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy, now known as the Centre of Excellence.
Reacting to his appointment, Bahutule said: “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed as the Spin Bowling Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Representing India as a player was a matter of immense pride, and the opportunity to contribute to Indian cricket once again in a coaching capacity is deeply special. I look forward to working with the players and supporting the team’s pursuit of excellence across formats.”
